DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED - "Drawing for Fun" 1-Day Drawing Workshop" Sundance Airpark, OKC. Strengthen your painting skills by acquiring the drawing habit. This will be a bi-monthly workshop (every other Thursday) for 6 sessions, held in the upstairs conference room at Sundance Airpark (122nd and Sara Road, OKC) from 1:00-3:00. February 21-22, 2009 - "It's All About the Strokes, Folks", or "Painting Pastels with Energy" Workshop, sponsored by the Oklahoma Pastel Society. This workshop will be a "play-shop," where we learn to loosen up, enjoy the marks we make on paper and just generally have fun with the wonderful materials pastelists use. Believe it or not, we as artists have only so much energy, although we often begin painting with such a sense of exhilaration that it feels like we can "conquer the world" (or at least easily interpret everything we see in that world onto our paper). We often discover, however, about half-way into the painting (or about the time we get to the "love it through the ugly stage"), that we run out of steam. We’ve spent our energy sporadically and equally on different parts of the painting.
During these workshops we will relax, push all those "rules" of painting to the back burner and have fun observing and selecting! It's all about the process and the fun of making marks, rather than copying what we see in front of us.
We will do color studies on small (8x12 or 9x12) before tackling more complex setups and will talk about where to spend our limited energy most effectively and when to "step away from the easel – it’s done.".
